You can easily check how much storage you have available on your Nexus 5. To do that, go to Settings  and tap Storage. If you see that you need to clear it, there are several things you can do, all listed below.

Uninstall third-party apps you don’t use

One of the easiest ways to clear up the storage space is by uninstalling third-party apps you don’t use. Sometimes, we download and install the app to try it out, and even if we don’t like it we leave it on a device. That way, the apps just keep piling up which affects the storage space. To delete the apps, go to Settings > Tap on Application manager (Apps), tap on the app you wish to remove from your device and then click Uninstall.

Clear apps cache and data

Clearing apps cache and data can also help you free up the storage space on your smartphone. You can clear the cache and data for each app separately: go to Settings, tap Storage & USB, tap Apps, choose the app you want and click on it and then tap on Clear Cache or Clear Data. There is also an option to clear cache for all the apps. To do that, go to Settings, click on Storage & USB, and then tap on Cached data, and to clear it, tap OK.

Back up photos and videos and delete them from your device

Taking photos and recording videos is something we all love to do, and we like to capture as many moments as we can. After a while, you may notice that you have a bunch of pictures, so what you need to do is back up all of it and then delete it from your device to free up the storage space and make some room for new memories.

Delete downloaded files

If you have many downloaded files, such as books, songs, movies, or tv shows, you can use the USB cable to move them to your computer. Once you do that, you can delete the files from your device. Open the Downloads app, find the file you want to delete, tap on it and hold and then click Delete.

Every once in a while, check the available storage space, and clear it up if needed.
