How to uninstall apps on Mac

Before we share this simple guide that will show you how to uninstall apps on Mac, we must mention that certain apps cannot be deleted. The apps you won’t be able to remove are parts of Mac OS X, such as Mail or Safari. You can uninstall all the other apps you downloaded from the Mac App Store or another website.

If you want to uninstall the programs on your Mac and remove the apps you have from the Mac App Store, follow the steps listed below:

  • Find Launchpad in the Dock and click on it
  • Choose the app you want to uninstall and hold its icon
  • You will notice that the icons of all the apps will start to jiggle
  • Click on the X button, and the app will be uninstalled
  • If you change your mind later, go to the Mac App Store and reinstall the application.

If the icon of the app you want to remove does not have the X button, it means it cannot be deleted in the Launchpad.

Click Applications in the Finder sidebar. If the application you wish to uninstall is inside a folder, open that folder. See if the (App) Uninstaller or Uninstall (App) exists. If there is, double-click on that and just follow the given instructions.

Here's how to uninstall apps on your Mac if the application you wish to remove doesn’t have an uninstaller: click applications in the Finder sidebar, find the app you want to uninstall and drag it to the Trash. After that, choose Finder and the Empty option Trash.
